Custom Part Kitting and Sequencing Design

Do you have a high variation assembly line with a wide array of parts? We’ll design part kitting and sequencing systems so that your operators have the right parts just where they need them. Kits can be structured around stationary locations and/or move along the line with your product.

Optimize Inventory & Work Space

A large off-highway powertrain manufacturer was having production interruptions because of line-side part shortages. Managing more than 50 parts for a single engine assembly, the operators had to handle a complex part selection in a tight space. Pulleys, radiator fans, alternator cables and electrical harnesses were crowded around the line and operators had to waste valuable assembly time walking back and forth to part bins.

Eliminate Line Interruptions from Part Shortages

After introducing their kitting process, the manufacturer eliminated line interruptions due to line-side parts shortages. They’ve decreased walk path times and inventory floor space by 80%. Their inventory control is much improved since kitting helped them to trace parts individually for a better part count visibility.

Increase Line Complexity with Fewer Errors

Sequencing parts for complex product variations can give you the ability to have greater product complexity without expanding your line and also help improve quality.

From Dozens of Products to Hundreds

One of our automotive customers went from producing one model in limited trim styles and colors to three models in ten trim styles and a wide variety of colors. Where they used to produce dozens of variations on a line, they can now produce hundreds of variations using less lineside factory floor space. Selection decision time is eliminated, so the operator can focus solely on proper assembly.
Your Sequencing system will be designed around the particular needs of your assembly line. Typical implementations provide the capability to pick in reverse or staggered sequence, giving operators optimum working efficiency.

Integrate Error Proofing

We’ll integrate error proofing into your MES kitting and sequencing systems to verify correct part picking and placement. Light indicators tell your operators which part bin to choose next, and notify them when inventory is low. Vision inspection systems can check for part position, and alert your operator to an absent or incorrectly placed part. Torque measurement can prevent incorrectly torqued products from advancing.

You can incorporate these systems into your network and communicate plant-wide through Andon boards, web clients and wireless handheld devices. RedViking will design the error proofing and communication integration process that fits your requirements.
