In-Sourcing Ensures High Quality Parts
Unreliable parts from a vendor were causing unitized center bearing (UCB) assemblies to fail during dynamometer testing, wasting time and money. Our customer, a Tier 1 automotive supplier, needed direct control over quality and a streamlined system to assemble the UCB efficiently and effectively.
RedViking designed and built a custom assembly and laser weld cell solution to manufacture long lasting, high performing and competitively priced parts in-house. This system, originally designed to supplement part production, ultimately eliminated the need for their supplier.
High Quality, Traceable Parts in Less Time
The system is comprised of two semi-automatic presses for preassemble and stacking as well as a laser weld station for the assembly of common radial bearings and bracket cup assemblies. Additionally, the assembly cell contains an automatic pick and place offload, allowing a holding queue for the parts to cool for presentation to the operator.
As part of the fully integrated solution, tracking and traceability provides a complete manufacturing history of each part, including force and distance tracking during pressing operations and laser monitoring of the weld process.
