The RedViking Story
Our Story Begins in 1981 with a Man and a Vision
We were founded in 1981 by Dave Emmett, one of the original designers of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). He named the company Superior Controls and built it on this principle, “If it’s good for the customer, good for the company, and good for the team, then it’s the right thing to do.”
The Birth of RedViking
We rapidly grew beyond controls into the development of error proofing and factory information systems, design/engineering of powertrain test machines, custom assembly systems, and dynamic test systems. RedViking Group, a subsidiary of Superior Controls, was established after receiving a contract to redesign the powertrain testing process, machines, software, and controls for the world’s largest U.S. Army helicopter Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center. We continued expanding by opening a Texas engineering center in 2012.

RedViking and Superior Controls
Merged in 2014
The name Superior Controls was not reflective of the broad experience base of the company. Accordingly, in 2014, Superior Controls and RedViking Group consolidated all operations under the name RedViking. Drawing from over 30 years of experience, we have a workforce of talented computer, software, mechanical, electrical and controls engineers, highly experienced program and project managers and skilled mechanical and electrical builders. With state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing centers in Michigan and Texas, RedViking is able to quickly respond to customer requirements and solve the most difficult engineering challenges across the globe in industries like automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment and defense.
